Animusz in space

A mapping event of the Animusz („Zest”) group. Films taken out of the context of flat screen move into space. Engulfing you into your surrounding, they fulfill the emptiness of white walls.

The Animusz Group:

The Animusz Animation Group has been active since 2016 at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan. It gathers and develops the interests of animation aficionados. Its goals include promotion of events, shows, workshops as well as meet&greets with the artists.

Participants:

  • Jakub Baniak

A director of animated shorts, engaged in motion design, film making and editing. In his animations, he has been exploring alternative narrative methods, using both traditional techniques as well as new digital media. He is a graduate of the Department of Animation at the University of the Arts Poznan, where he is currently employed as an Assistant Teacher at the Graphic Animation Workshop.

Description of work:

“Do Not Forget” is an animated experimental short created via rotoscoping which uses photogrammetry to show the relations between man and his surrounding.

  • Julia Hazuka

Julia Hazuka was born in 1999 in Gdynia. She is a graduate student at the University of the Arts Poznan. Her main interest is graphic animation, mainly character design, although during her studies she has also experimented with puppetry and painting.

Description of work:

“Snumbra” is a subjective experience of the moment between dream and awakening.

  • Jakub Kostewicz

Jakub Kostewicz (instagram.com/kostewicz.art) is an artist from Poznan. His main area of interest is animation, music video direction and painting in which he explores dark introspection as well as grotesque reinterpretation of cultural motifs. His works celebrate  diversity, randomness and non-compromising expression. Recently, he has been moving towards drag, or queer art, combining costume and performance, standing in opposition to Poland's prevailing heteronormativity.

Description of work:

“PERSON/ALIAS”, gif cycle, 2021, Visual diary of moments of frustration, impressions stemming from unresolved conflicts and   misunderstandings. Animations, using expressive typography, self-portraits and symbols,   create dependencies due to which I can confront whatever I cannot express on everyday terms.

“THE ADVISERS OF KING HYDROPS”, musical illustration, 2021, An  abstract adaptation of Stanisław Lem's short story from the Fables for Robots cycle, created to the music of Sepia Ensemble. Amassyd, Minogar, Dioptryk and Filonauta are conspiring against King Hydrops. The classic tale is enriched by impersonations of Poznan drag collective House of Orzeczenie.

  • Daria Kruszka


Daria Kruszka was born in Śrem, and currently studies at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan, the Department of Animation. Her interests include animated movies and anthropology.

Description of work:

What hides in the mind of an animator? It's hard to tell, as normal stuff turns out to be strange. Perhaps this film answers the question.

  • Robert Kuźniewski

An animator, director, and editor. He is an author of animated movies and music videos. His animations include Sexy Laundry and Portrait of Suzanne, produced by Berlin's Clay Traces studio. Has won numerous awards, including the Poznan Animator Festival Audience Award  or the Grand Prix at the Krakow Film Festival. For ten years now he has been the promoter and one of the instructors at the “Anima” International Animated Film Workshop in Dresden and “Phase” in Kudowa Zdrój. He is a member of “Mastershot” and “Filmowiec” foundations in Poznan. He has been the recipient of the artistic scholarship of the Department of Culture of the City of Poznan. He is a student of the Department of Animation and Intermedia at the University of the Arts Poznan.

"The River", “This is not that river, portico filled with wet shadow and sand. This is deciduous memory and it grates against whatever remains whatever reasons designs we have concealed”... An abstract pixelized etude based on “Lethe”, a TJ DEMA's poem.

  • Zuzanna Michalska

Zuzanna Michalska, a sophomore student at the Department of Animation at the University of the Arts Poznan. Her interests include abstract and experimental animation.

Description of work:

"Three Small Stories", Saxophone. Double bass. Drums. Three small stories told through the medium of movement. A painter's visualization of music by Kwaśny Deszcz (Acid Rain).

"Dychana", A spatial visualization of the song “Dychana” by the band Księżyc (The Moon).

  • Weronika Nowacka

Weronika Nowacka is a socially conscious junior student at the Department of Animation of the University of the Arts Poznan. She treats movies as a form of art – her priorities include movement, graphic expression and metalanguage messages. In her free time, she plays the ukulele, bartends and teaches kids how to draw.

Description of work:

Her etude, Coffee coffe coffee, was created as a light epigram, an interpretation of Kyle Krone's piece as part of the 2nd Animation Workshop at our University.

  • Katarzyna Orłowska

Katarzyna Orłowska was born in 2000 in Gdańsk. She has been studying animation at the University of the Arts Poznan since 2019. She is mainly interested in graphic animation, however, during her studies she has also experimented with other techniques.

  • Agata Piasecka

Agata Piasecka was born in Warsaw in 1998, and currently is a student at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan. Her specialties include animated movies, painting and fabric.

An abstract movie form perfomed to Rafał Zapała's “Electro Stones” inspired by Stanisław Lem's Fables for Robots.
“His kingdom was filled with thinking machines, since Poleander placed them everywhere he could; (...) he ordered to embed little electric brains into highways which would warn a pedestrian (with a very loud voice) so that they don't trip;”

  • Julia Izabela Piekarska

Julia Izabela Piekarska was born in 2000 in Chełmno. In 2020 she graduated from the High  School of the Arts in Orłowo, Gdynia, and started her studies at the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of the Arts Poznan.

Description of work:

“The Szczecin Brouhaha”, an animated music video for Alarm, a punk band, in which the inhabitants of the city of Szczecin face the apocalypse.


  • Yana Siahaieva

Yana Siagaeva was born in 1995 in Yuzhnoukrainsk, a small town in the south of Ukraine. When she was 18, she moved to Krakow in order to start her studies, and that was also where she received her licentiate degree at the Department of Commercial Graphics of the Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University. In the same year she began her studies at the Department of Animation at the University of the Arts Poznan. She has received her licentiate degree in 2020. Currently, Yana resides and works in Kyiv, Ukraine. In her animated movies Yana concentrates on man's inner world, searching for an answer to the question: “What makes us human?”.

Description of works:

Wired is a movie illustrating the overcoming of an important stage in the life of man. This animation shows man's struggle with lifetime circumstances, and, at times, with himself.

  • Wojtek Siejak

Wojciech Siejak was born in Poznan in 1997. He is an animator and a director of animated movies. He has specialized in computer animation as well as combining it with traditional artistic methods. He is a student at the Department of Animation and Intermedia at the University of the Arts Poznan.

Description of work:

A mind is an unstable place. Sometimes the thoughts which are nurtured the most vanish due to momentary inattention. At other times, the unwanted ones are very deeply rooted and last with painful determination. Such reflections accompanied the process of making "Lethe". The verbal statements turned into lines, some of them straight, some not.

  • Aneta Siurnicka

Aneta Siurnicka was born in 1998. She is currently a freshwoman at the Department of Animation and Intermedia of the University of the Arts Poznan. She is enamored of creating small worlds, full of colors, textures and emotions. She uses a full scope of techniques, however her favorite is puppet animation.

Description of work:

“Post-Proto” is a short animation movie made with the use of puppetry. It visualizes the element of searching for what is primeval as well as the idea of returning to one's roots.

  • Julia Szkup

Julia Szkup, a sophomore student at the Department of Animation of the University of the Arts Poznan. She has experimented in matter animation, graphic animation as well as mixing of various techniques.

Untitled. Reflection on time as well as on the influence of emotion on its pace and the intensity of its run.

  • Ewa Sztefka


Ewa was born in 1993 in a small town in Silesia. In 2016 she graduated from the Krakow University of Economics, the Department of Applied Computer Studies, and, one year later, she began her studies at the University of the Arts Poznan, where she is currently pursuing her M.A. degree. She is mostly preoccupied with digital animation (both graphic and cut-out) as well as collage with the use of frame-by-frame. While not in engaged in animation, she pursues digital illustration, character design and creating screenplays for potential video games.
