Meeting with Zbigniew Suszyński, winner of the Marshal of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship’s Film Award for Special Achievements in Dubbing

Zbigniew Suszyński is a theatre, film, and dubbing actor whose voice is recognized by both children and adults across Poland. He was born in 1961 in Rypin –  a small town in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, where, as a young boy, he became fascinated with theatre and spoken word. It was there, at the local Cultural Center, that his first encounters with art began, eventually leading to an exceptional voice acting career.

He graduated from the Acting Department of the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź in 1987 and began his stage career that same year. He made his debut as Orlando in the play „As You Like It” at the Julian Tuwim Study Theatre in Łódź.

Over the years, he was associated with theatres in Łódź and Warsaw, and since the early 1990s he has been a co-creator of the Contemporary Theatre in Warsaw, where he continues to perform as an actor.

Suszyński is known for acting in films such as „The Last Bell”, „Young Wolves” and „E=mc²”, as well as for popular television series including „Samo życie”, „First Love”, „Biuro kryminalne” and „For Better and for Worse”. Thanks to these productions, he became widely recognized as a film and television actor

However, it was his work in the field of dubbing that brought him particular recognition and earned him the reputation of being one of the most recognizable voices in Poland. Suszyński is a well-known and respected voice actor and narrator – his voice can be heard in over 300 film, television, and video game productions. He is best known as the Prince Charming in „Shrek”, the Mayor in „Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”, Memphis in „Happy Feet”, and RJ the raccoon in „Over the Hedge”. You have also heard him in countless cartoons and children’s series – he was the voice of Tom in „Tom and Jerry”, Squidward Tentacles in „SpongeBob SquarePants”, he dubbed the title character in the series „The Tick”, and Dino in „The Flintstones”.

Zbigniew Suszyński also excelled as a dubbing director – under his supervision, Polish language versions of many animated productions were created. The artist’s directorial credits include dubbing for series such as „The Tom and Jerry Show”, „Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan”, „Barbie: Dreamtopia”, „Looney Tunes Cartoons”, and „Ghostforce”, as well as many well-known animated and television films, including „Barbie: Dolphin Magic”, „Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans”, and „Scooby-Doo! Meets the Gourmet Ghost”.

It is for his contribution to the development of dubbing culture in Poland that Zbigniew Suszyński will be honored with this year’s Special Achievement Award for Dubbing, during a meeting event, to which we warmly invite you. This will be a unique opportunity to talk about passion, the behind-the-scenes work of a voice actor, and the creative process in dubbing with an artist whose voice has accompanied viewers for years, across multiple generations.

Zbigniew Suszyński will receive our Special Achievement Award in Dubbing on Sunday, April 26th at 5:00 PM at Music Cafe Szpulka (MCK Bydgoszcz). The meeting will be hosted by Marcin Szymczak.
