The aim of the course is to intoduce students to the basics of film criticism, in their theoretical as well as practical aspects.

Description

The aim of the course is to intoduce students to the basics of film criticism (in the area of animated films), in their theoretical as well as practical aspects (journalistic techniques, various forms of journalistic expression – the press, radio, television). The first two meetings will be held in the form of lectures illustrated by film excerpts as well as examples of both traditional and 'online' journalism, devoted to the essence of film criticism. The consecutive two meetings will be more practical in nature. They will be devoted to working on specific texts and discussing reviews written by workshop participants.

Stages

  • part I - Basics of journalistic techniques, various forms of journalistic expression (note, photo caption, review, commentary, essay, column, interview, report, etc.), particularities of radio and television broadcast, problems of traditional and online journalism (similarities and differences), appropriate use of reliable sources, preparing filmography, bibliography, footnotes, "subjectivity" and "objectivity" in the description of the topic of journalistic analysis (lecture).
  • part II - The concept of film animation, animation techniques, computer animation, milestones of world animation, Polish school of animation, animation - business or art? (lecture).
  • part III - How to write a review (advice and tips, a presentation of several animated films made in various techniques, discussion on the films with a view to writing a review).
  • part IV - Discussing reviews written by workshop participants.
