Something good/weird for everyone! – full-length films at the 15th Animocje
Animated filmmakers are brave beasts. They're not afraid of long hours spent on a single production. Hours? Sometimes even years! Yes, yes... making a full-length animation is no small feat. It can take several, even a dozen years. We greatly appreciate the efforts of the creators, and as every year, we're dedicating a portion of the festival program to screenings of full-length films. And what full-length films will we be serving you this year?
For younger film lovers, we've prepared two suggestions:
Ghost Cat Anzu dir. Yôko Kuno & Nobuhiro Yamashita 12+
Latest anime from the producers of “The Boy and the Heron”. Eleven-year-old Karin, who has recently lost her mother, is left by her father in the care of her grandfather, while he disappears to take care of “important matters.” At the temple looked after by her grandfather, Karin meets Anzu—a talking cat the size of a human. And the cat, being a cat, goes his own way, is lazy and spiteful.
The Songbird’s Secret dir. Antoine Lanciaux 6+
The small and seemingly unremarkable town of Bectoile hides many secrets. Raised in the area, Lucie’s mother Caroline, together with her friend Pierrot, takes care of one of them: an abandoned castle. Her resourceful daughter Lucie refuses to stay on the sidelines and sets out to solve the mystery of her grandfather’s disappearance. Could this story be connected to the infamous fire from years ago and the mysterious healer who cures animals and lives in the forest? To uncover the truth, it’s not enough to simply keep one’s eyes open.
Slightly older viewers will find as many as 3 full-length films in the program:
When are volutionary invention is stolen, a fearless detective and a brilliant scientist join forces to recover a machine capable of manipulating dreams. If their mission fails, dream criminals will take control of every sleeping person, potentially leading to catastrophe. Paprika is a film that pushes the boundaries of imagination, where dreams and reality collide to create a breath taking visual spectacle.
Endless Cookie, dir. Peter & Seth Scriver 16+
“Endless Cookie” is based on the real stories of Peter, a mixed (Indigenous and white) person from the Shamattawa First Nations in Manitoba, mixed with the animations of Seth; a white artist, director, and Peter’s half-brother. The core of the film is the relationships between the protagonists and the rest of the family.
In a distant future, where mermaids and humans live side by side, ChaO – a fish princess proposes her hand in marriage to Stephan, a thin-skinned office worker of a shipyard. She turns his life upside down.
We invite you to the festival shows! :)
